Writing: ARTICLE

Hello everyone!

  • Here I add the main information about our new writing style, an optional part in the examinations that you will do the next year: the article.

  • An article describes your opinion and ideas about a topic, which in our case is an animal from our assigned country.
  • It is a formal type of writing

*Remember to do a draft (borador) first and then write it in the writing specific paper.

Here I attach the task information and the model I created to give you ideas (not to copy!):

Writing: E-MAIL

Hello everyone! :)

This is our new type of writing: the e-mail. It is quite similar to the informal letter that we did in terms of structure.

The topic of this new writing is DESCRIBING MY GADGET (electronic device) that you will present to a friend. The deadline (last day to hand it out) is Monday 20th of January and it needs to be around 100-120 words.

Instructions
I remind you some of the most important instructions for it:

1. Say hello (Hi Annie! Hello Annie! Dear Annie!) and be polite (educada/o), asking about how the person feels

2. Describe your gadget (mobile phone, tablet, laptop, smartwatch...), naming its appearance (colour, shape, material...), if it was cheap or expensive, why you like it, what you do with it (communicate, play games, do homework...). If you have other ideas to name, they are more than welcome!

3. Remember to say goodbye and sign it (firmar) with your name

I attach here two models for you to get ideas (NOT TO COPY!), which are the ones that I presented during the lesson.

Best,
Mery

Writing: STORY

Hello everybody!

I wish you a Merry Christmas time again and I remind you that below this entry you have the CHRISTMAS HOMEWORK (three tasks). Don't forget it!

One of the tasks is writing a story in the Writing paper that you have. Here you have the most important instructions to write it:

General instructions

  • It needs to have a minimum of 100 words. You have enough space to write in one of the sections
  • Write a draft (borrador) in another paper. You should use the template I gave you for the final one
  • Use paragraphs to separate your ideas

Story instructions

  • Add a title
  • Start with some formula such as "Once upon a time..." (Érase una vez), "One day..." or "When it all started..."
  • Use past tenses: they are the most common ones in a story
  • During the story, use connectors to link your ideas. They create a great effect!
-Firstly / Secondly / Thirdly
-As soon as (tan pronto como)
-In the meantime (mientras tanto)
-Suddenly (de repente)
-At the same time

  • Finish the story with a proper ending: include words like "finally" or "at the end"
  • Try to be creative: your imagination is the only limit! I love reading your great stories and it will be a great practice for KET / PET exams in 6th grade

*More advices about writing stories:

Christmas story (example):
Here you have an example of a story (don't copy it, it's only a model!)

THE MAGIC WARDROBE
Once upon a time there was a girl called Mery. She really loved Christmas. Everything was great : spending time with family, opening presents, sleeping until late…

One day she was playing with her toys when she heard a noise coming from the wardrobe.
She was very curious, so she went there. She came closer and suddenly a little elf appeared. He was so funny! He started to jump and wanted to play with her all the time.

From that day on, they became best friends but they could only meet during Christmas time. The rest of the year the elf was busy creating new toys!

Best,
Mery

CHRISTMAS TASKS!

Hello everybody!
As I told you in class, I want you to do three simple English tasks during these looooooong holiday.
I explain them here again:

1. Christmas story: write your Christmas story in the assigned template (the same one as for the informal letter).

Instructions:
-Remember to use past tenses (it's a story!)
-Be creative and use your imagination
-A good way of starting a story is writing "Once upon a time..." (Érase una vez)

2. Book report: fill a book report (new format) for the book that you've chosen in class.

Instructions:
-Complete all sections in the report
-Search for the words that you don't know when reading! (it's a great way to learn)

3. Film review: in the same way as you do it with books. tell us something about the Christmas film that you've chosen.
There are many Christmas films on Netflix, Movistar+, HBO, Amazon Prime... and if you do not have access to these platforms, you can find some of them for free on YouTube or choose one that you watch on TV/ cinema during Christmas time.

Recommended films

Here you have a list with recommended titles (it's better if you watch them in English with English subtitles! You're ready to do that):

  • Home Alone
  • Klaus
  • Polar Express
  • The Grinch
  • The Christmas Chronicles
  • Arthur Christmas
  • Nightmare before Christmas
  • A Christmas Carol
  • Frosty the Snowman
  • Jack Frost
  • A Christmas story
  • Santa Buddies

Merry Christmas to all of you and your families.
Enjoy this beautiful time of the year with your loved ones.

See you in 2020!
Love,
Mery

WRITING: This is my city!

Hello everyone!

I attach here information about the informal letter that you have to do.
Remember that you need to hand out on Thursday (5th of December) and you need to use the template for writings that we will use from now on.

Important: this is a letter! Remember that it has a specific structure as you can see in the pictures. I have also included two examples that you can use as models

See you tomorrow,
Mery

Games to review unit 1: CLOTHES

Hello everybody! :)
Here you have a QUIZLET to practice vocabulary in the unit 1.
You will find clothes words and adjectives to describe items of clothing, such as "patterned" or "flowery".

Probably you will have to register to play, using your e-mail and a password.

I recommend you to follow these steps:

1. Read the words and definitions in "FICHAS" section
2. Practice in these sections: "ESCRIBIR" (write),  "ORTOGRAFÍA" (listen and write) and "PROBAR" (write after reading a definition)

This is the link:

Remember to check your notes to ask me some questions on Monday, since we have the exam next Tuesday.

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday!
Mery

Writing task: Clothes

Hello everybody! :)

Here you have the instructions to do the clothes writing for the next week.
Since I uploaded this one day late due to technical problems, you can hand it out on Tuesday too (8th of October).

Remember that it needs to be 80 words minimum and include some of the vocabulary in the unit, mostly the words that we review daily in the beginning of the lesson.
Keep in mind that it is a text, not only answering to questions in a list!

Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday,
Mery
